Maintaining the infrastructure
Rhinophalt protects the surface from weathering, oxidisation and traffic use and, following the application, effectively halts the deteroriation of the bituminous surface. With repeat applications every four to five years, Rhinophalt is a completely sustainable and extremely cost-effective process. By giving asphalt a longer life, it reduces carbon emissions associated with resurfacing, traffic disruption, aggregate waste and extraction, lorry movements, carbon emissions and - most significantly - it reduces the whole life costs in road maintenance.

To demonstrate the effectiveness of Rhinophalt, 11 years ago only the second half of a parking lot was treated. Time has proven the effectiveness of the process.
Problem
A nation's road network is normally its Government's biggest asset and generaly around 95% of journeys made use this form of infrastructure. Accordingly, the condition and maintenance of the road network is critical to the efficiency of this essential asset and the degregation of a road surface has a profound detrimental effect upon disruption, the environment and maintenance budgets. Bituminous surfaces begin deteriorate as soon as they are laid and historically the general culture has simply been to allow this inevitable deteroriation to take place. This decline has been accepted as an unavoidable consequence of oxidisation, weathering and traffic abrasion. As a result, surface repair and maintenance is damaging to the environment, extremely costly and disruptive to traffic.
Solution
Rhinophalt is a cold spray-applied treatment incorporating Gilsonite, a natural 99% pure asphalt mineral, which penetrates the bituminous material in the road to rejuvenate and protect the surface. Rhinophalt chemically re-engineers the existing binder and seals in the essential oils and resins. It improves the inherent flexibility of the rejuvenated surface and therefore renders it more resistant to deformation, cracking, stiffness and traffic abrasion. The treatment is quick to apply and the treated surface can be reopened to traffic within two hours of application. Areas up to 20,000 m2 can be sprayed in an eight hour period.
